As one travels to the Hawaiian Islands it may seem overwhelming and confusing as to which island to visit. Kailua Kona, home to many kings in history is a seaside town with beautiful views, and breathtaking sites, and located on the big island. Sitting on the foundation of the Hualalai Volcano it was a known fact that the island was known for water, and good grounds for harvest. As kings settled here, missionaries and other settles followed throughout time. As tourists and visitors would drive down Ali'i Drive, which happens to be the main street, one will see that it runs alongside the oceanfront taking tourists through the city and directly to Kailua Pier and the Kuamo'o Battlefield.
Site Seeing
Many tourists and visitors have been known to visit area just to take advantage of the stars and night skyline. As Atop Mauna Kea which stands approximately 9,000' high, one will have the opportunity to climb to the top and visit the Mauna Kea Visitor Information Center; here school students and visitors alike are offered the opportunity to experience Hawaiian stargazing with many of the different telescopes available, generally on the weekends.
As more and more visitors have been drawn to the area, they are currently booking tours, and walking guides for those interested, at the time all one needs to do is call the tourist information line for more information. It is advised to watch the climate and dress accordingly: Jeans and light jacket or hoody.
As you prepare to visit the area, there are going to be things you need to know to familiarize yourself with the area, here are a few useful tips about the island:
• Parking is limited on the island, public transportation is recommended • Many varieties of restaurants and novelty shops • Lodging available • Historical sites • Religious sites for viewing and experiencing/educating • Boats, charters and cruises available for booking/reservations • Gorgeous skyline and sunsets for weddings and events
This seaport was one of the most desired places to live, as mentioned above to Kings, religious organizations, and slowly, farmers and others settlers landed on the island after family members sent word that this island was known to bring luck and good fortunes. That superstition has stuck with the island over the years, and today brings thousands of tourists to the island yearly. The island of Kailua has been known to bring newlyweds/honeymooners, golden age anniversary couples and families to the island. There is something for everyone here, such as beaches, novelty shopping, white sand, good food and historical sites for everyone young and old.
This charming town and island combine good food, friendly natives, beautiful sea air, sunshine and amazing music into one magical location. Kailua Kona offers amazing sites for families and couples, and memories to last a lifetime. As airfare rates have dropped due to the economy status there has been a steady flow of tourists through the area, allowing those local to manage the upkeep of the city and continue offering that full Hawaiian experience to those looking to make their travels memorable.
