California Climate
Costal California has Mediterranean climate with cool rainy winters and dry summers, however, as one starts moving away from the coast the summers and winters become more extreme.
The high mountains, including the Sierra Nevada, have sub-arctic climate with long snowy winters and mild to moderate summers.
The east side of California’s mountains produces a rain shadow, creating an extreme desert climate with hot summers and mild winters.
